TreasurerOpen position.. Art LaFrance was elected but has chosen to resign. The board will now appoint someone to fill this office. In the meantime, Diana King has volunteered to fill in when needed. (Member appointed will be up for election in April for a 1 yr. term)

Board meetings are currently scheduled for the 4th Tuesday at 1:00 PM  at BUU

Formal minutes recording any motions or decisions are taken at the meeting by the Secretary and available the following week to all members. (see link below to past minutes)

All Board meetings are open to all BUU members and invited guests. Audience comments and participation and presentations are at the discretion of the President during the meeting. Members are expected to practice the BUU covenant with their comments and actions.

Agendas are the responsibility of the President with input from the membership and Board.

 Board Informal informational Workshops are held The 2nd Thursday at 1:00 PM.

Board Positions and Responsibilities

   (Summary per current Borderland UU Bylaws Article VI*)

___President:

  1. Serves as the Executive Officer of the Board
  2. Presides at meetings of the Board and Congregation
  3. May serve as ex-officio member of any committee except the Audit committee.

___Vice President:

  1. Presides at meetings of the Congregation and Board in the absence of the President
  2. Performs such other functions as assigned by the Board.

___Secretary:

  1. Keeps records of the actions of the Congregation and Board,
  2. Records the minutes.
  3. Performs such other functions as assigned by the Board.

___Treasurer:

  1. Serves as the fiscal officer of the Congregation.
  2. Has custody of money belonging to the congregation.
  3. Keeps records of income, receipts, and expenditures.
  4. Is empowered to sign checks.
  5. Pays the bills and charges that are in the approved budget or are approved by the Board.
  6. Reports to the Board at its monthly meetings and to the membership at the Annual Meeting.
  7. Performs such other functions as assigned by the Board.
  8. Subject to Board approval, the Treasurer may appoint people to assist in these duties.
  9. The Board shall, by resolution, designate persons empowered to sign checks if the Treasurer is unavailable.

  1. Officers and Members at Large are the voting members of the Board.
  2. They shall be elected by the Congregation at the Annual meeting to serve terms of two years or the remainder of any vacant position.

___Terms of office:

  1. Terms will begin and end with the fiscal year: July 1st  June 30th
  2. To provide continuity, terms and election years for positions on the Board shall be staggered.

Authority and Responsibilities:

  1. The Board of Directors, subject to the prime authority of the congregation, is the policy-forming and administrative body of BUU.
  2. The Board has full authority and responsibility, except as limited by these bylaws, to act on the business and programs of BUU.
  3. The Board shall develop appropriate policies and procedures and maintain same in an official Policies and Procedures Manual.
  4. The Board also shall have general charge of the finances and property of the Congregation, the conduct of business affairs, the hiring of staff, and the administration of routine matters.
  5. Board meetings and Board work sessions are held once a month. Special Board meetings are sometimes held.
  6. Members of the Board may be appointed Chairpersons or Co-Chairs of committees.

Election Date – April 26th, 2026, at the BUU Member’s Annual Meeting. Forms available 3/22    4/9. The BUU congregation will be electing 7 members to the Board of Directors.

* Bylaws Article VI is subject to revision by a motion at the Member’s annual meeting April 26th, 2026. There is a probability that BUU, within the coming year, will likely be examining its current governance structure which may also alter the expectations and responsibilities for these positions.
